Larry Williams is talking to me about the press release below at 4.10 pm at NewstalkZB.

I have listened twice to your interview with Larry Williams. Your press release rather more reflected the stance you appear to have about welfare issues, whereas in the interview you tended more towards being an impartial commentator. As a consequence, Larry struggled with it a bit, I thought.

Thank you Anon. I hadn't realised there was a link to it. Your comment is fair. It was always going to be difficult because, as I said in the interview, not naming the fathers is just another unforeseen consequence of the DPB.

I am not in the conservative camp who think we should force mothers to name fathers under threat of penalty (which I think is where he had me with his opening). The problem is much bigger than that. The problem is the whole system. Messing about with penalties is just tinkering.

The media has only ever been offered two views. The punitive or the soft left. I'm neither.

Lindsay, I had not heard it live. When I read your post I went to NewstalkZB "week on demand" and ran it twice, 4.15pm start.

I agree with you, there has to be a "better" option (without being a mugwamp).
