Bloggers too blokey

A Guardian journalist who likes to put people in boxes.

"Men used to go fishing when they wanted to get away from 'the wife' and swap smutty jokes. Now they take up blogging.....Today, it is one of the more useful services - some might argue, the single valuable service of the political blogosphere - to afford interested women a similar glimpse of what respectable middle-aged men do when they think themselves unobserved."

What could be more egalitarian than blogging?

Anyone can start one, with little capital outlay or ongoing costs and say what they like on it.

Do you feel like you're a token female Lindsay?

So what's this idiot's explanation for women blogging? Are they getting away from all those sexist, insensitive males?

The last sentence was absolutely hilarious - please, could someone at Guarniad please find me a political blogger who's ever complained about having too many hits. Happy hunting, Mizzz Bennett.

Andrei, a "token" anything implies being chosen or given permission in some way. But as you say anyone can blog.

There is more sexism in the UK but it runs both ways. Men and women are more prone to stereotyping each other and it's a comfort thing. They have far more history of doing it. I think the writer is indulging in a very British form of flirting.

Craig, this bit is very funny too.

We know what people do when they truly believe no-one is watching and it isn't blogging.
